Here is the situation.
The Minnesota joint House and Senate Transportation Conference Committee is meeting now. One provision REDUCES previously pledged State operating funds for Borealis. Another would claw back previously approved matching grants for federal funding of NLX!
Here is what we are asking you to do.
Oppose Proposed Cuts to Borealis!
Please call or email members of the Transportation Conference Committee and tell them:
1. You OPPOSE cuts in the House bill of nearly $9 million to planned FY2028 and FY2029 investment in the Borealis. Cuts will jeopardize this successful new service – with ridership far exceeding projections
. 2. You SUPPORT this service because….(You ride to visit family, you don’t have a car, there are not flights to the destination, you are attending a meeting, taking a trip, etc.)
Oppose Huge cuts to Northern Lights Express.
You can also let the committee members know of your disappointment about the huge claw back to a previously approved investment in the proposed Northern Lights Express passenger train between the Twin Cities and Duluth. These proposed cuts are in both House and Senate bills.
The conference committee will continue to meet until a deal is reached.
The session ends Monday, May 19. If an agreement is not reached by the deadline, there will be a special session and negotiations will continue. But, it is important to act now, and keep contacting legislators and the Governor until the bill is adopted.
